Over the past couple of months, I’ve had a few chances to step outside the news cycle — to unplug from the endless feed of fear, shock, and urgency. And every time I do, something inside of me shifts.
Without that steady drip of stress and outrage, I become more hopeful. I remember that most people are doing their best. I stop scanning for what’s wrong out there and start tuning into what’s right here — in my breath, my body, my relationships, and the way I choose to move through the world.
Your Nervous System Needs a Break
Turning off the noise isn’t just about peace and quiet. It’s about giving your nervous system space to recalibrate. That subtle shift — from scattered to steady, reactive to reflective — has real biological effects.
This is where mindset becomes medicine.
We’re all carrying something. No one gets through unscathed. The struggle is universal — and often invisible. That’s what makes it so easy to forget we’re not alone in the fumbling.
But just recognizing that truth softens the edge. It makes room for compassion. For possibility. For growth.
From Noise to Nourishment
This moment — the one where we unplug from the fear and frenzy — is a turning point.
It’s where we reclaim agency and perspective.
Where we move from “There’s nothing I can do”
to “What do I want to do?”
A growth mindset doesn’t mean we ignore reality.
It means we don’t get stuck in negative thought patterns.
It’s not wishful thinking — it’s embodied resilience.
In fact, studies show that a growth mindset can:
- Increase stress resilience
- Improve immune function
- Enhance emotional regulation
- Boost cognitive flexibility
When you believe you have agency, your nervous system settles. When stress decreases, your body heals more easily.
Let Music Be the Medicine
So how do we support that steady, empowered, hopeful state in everyday life?
Music.
Think of a moment when a song brought tears to your eyes —
a melody that helped you grieve,
a lyric that felt like a prayer,
a rhythm that made you dance again.
That shift you feel? That’s vibrational medicine.
Music is one of the fastest, most accessible tools we have for nervous system regulation. Research shows it can:
- Increase dopamine
- Improve HRV (heart rate variability)
- Lower cortisol
- Reduce inflammation
- Encourage emotional release
A Playlist for Hope & Healing
I’m putting together a playlist of high-vibration music — songs that help regulate, restore, and reconnect. I’ll share the Spotify and iTunes links soon. In the meantime, here are a few of my go-tos:
- Just Love – Joshua Bassett
- Stacks or Holocene – Bon Iver
- Whatever’s Written in Your Heart – Gerry Rafferty (wait for the choir)
- Saturday in the Park – Chicago
- Shower the People (live with Arnold McCuller) – James Taylor
- Waiting for My Real Life to Begin – Colin Hay
- Spring 0,1,2,3 – Vivaldi recomposed by Max Richter
- Gabriel’s Oboe – Yo-Yo Ma plays Ennio Morricone (from The Mission)

Reply and send it my way — I’d love to add it to the mix.
Here’s to turning down the noise, turning up the music, and finding steadiness within.
